The Madonna and Child Enthroned with Saints Bernardino, Peter, Sebastian, and Sigismondo is an important tempera painting on panel.
The Sienese artist Andrea di Niccolò created it in 1498.
Today, you can admire this splendid work of sacred art in the Collegiate Church Museum of Casole d'Elsa.
The Madonna sits on a throne at the center of the scene. Flanking her are two small columns with gilded capitals.
The figures: Mary holds the baby Jesus in her arms. To their sides are four important saints: Saint Bernardino of Siena, Saint Peter, Saint Sebastian, and Saint Sigismondo.
The upper lunette: Above the main scene, the painting depicts the Massacre of the Innocents and the Crucifixion of Christ.
This painting is one of Andrea di Niccolò's most famous works and is a fundamental guide for art historians, as it is his earliest work bearing a signature and a certain date.
