The Civic and Diocesan Museum of Sacred Art is located in the premises of the Conservatory of San Pietro on Via Gracco del Secco. The current museum was formed with the merger of the city's Civic and Diocesan Museums in 1995. The exhibition occupies three rooms. The first large room houses mostly 17th- and 18th-century works, including a polychrome wooden crucifix from the late 13th century. It also houses a substantial collection of 19th- and early 20th-century works. The second room is a truly small, precious collection of works by the so-called Primitives, painted on gold backgrounds. The most important work in this room, and perhaps even in the entire Museum collection, is the so-called Galognano Treasure: an extremely rare silver Eucharistic set, consisting of four chalices, a paten, and a spoon, which testifies to the existence of a Christian community of Ostrogothic ethnicity in the 6th century AD. The fortuitous discovery occurred in Pian dei Campi.
